This summer has a lot to offer residents in University City. From street festivals to celebrations, you’ll have something to keep you occupied every weekend. While most events are just steps from apartments in University City, some require a little more adventure.
Kick off June with the 10th annual Philly Beer Week, a celebration of Philadelphia’s vibrant beer culture. Enjoy learning about types of beer, beer-pairing and of course, taste testing. Locations to enjoy this event are peppered throughout the city, so check here for a location closest to you.
If you enjoy The Roots, they’ll be playing at Festival Pier for their 10th annual The Roots Picnic event. This event is a little far from apartments in University City, but The Roots frequently feature guest artists at this annual Philadelphia-proud event. Former acts have included Usher, Future, Leon Bridges, DMX, Willow Smith and GoGo Morrow.
Looking for some cultural fun? The Odunde Fesitval on South Street invites you to experience the largest African-American street festival. There will be food trucks and shopping vendors galore! There’s also the 28th annual PrideDay LGBTQ Parade and Festival starting in the Gayborhood and ending at Penn’s Landing. Live music, DJs, food, drinks and the parade are all fun activities to enjoy at this colorful event.
For something closer to home, the Night Market Philadelphia festival will be coming to Spruce Hill at the end of the month. If you love food, you don’t want to miss this collection of food trucks, live music, and vendors.
The annual Parks on Tap series is also near apartments in University City. This travelling beer garden series takes advantage of green spaces throughout the city. This series hosts one beer truck and one food truck each night. Check back frequently as each truck will rotate throughout the series.
Don’t forget to attend the epic Wawa Welcome America celebration at the end of June and the first week of July! Celebrating the nation’s birthday for the 25th year in a row, this multi-day party features free events throughout the city including block parties, concerts, museum days, a parade and fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Hosted by the University of Philadelphia’s public radio station, WXPN, the XPoNential Music Festival kicks off in late July held at Wiggins Park and the BB&T Pavilion.
