What’s New In Old City

Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood is steeped in history. Known for its iconic attractions, fashionable boutiques, fine dining restaurants, and popular entertainment venues, Old City is a popular destination for folks from all of the city and the nearby suburbs. Yet, it’s one of the city’s most bustling communities, too! Rather than coast on its stellar reputation and its legendary landmarks, Old City frequently hosts an array of unique events and warmly welcomes new businesses to the city!

Here are a few of the area’s most anticipated happenings and newest attractions!

A Totally Tubular Time

Looking for something a little non-traditional for your post-Thanksgiving get-togethers? Grab your best buds. Don your finest puff-sleeve dress or pastel suit. Then moonwalk over to Positano Coast for their “Back To The 80s Brunch!” In addition to a menu that elevates the brunch experience to the next level, you can sip 80s-themed cocktails while listening to a soundtrack of the decade’s biggest hits. Reserve your table for Sunday, November 27th now – so you’re not buggin’ later!

An Old Friend Returns – Better Than Ever!

One of the unfortunate effects of the recent pandemic was the closing of the Ritz East. Over the years, this movie theater treated locales to some of the best indie movies of all time. Fortunately, its two screens are back in action thanks to a legendary local institutionNow known as the Philadelphia Film Society East, this Old City staple is back in business! After reopening its doors for this fall as part of the Philadelphia Film Festival, the East’s two screens are once again showcasing modern masterpieces, Hollywood blockbusters and classic films. Grab a ticket and a large bucket of popcorn and escape reality for a little while through the magic of movies at the neighborhood theater.

Celebrate Art In Old City

When the Wexler Gallery opened its doors in 2000, it quickly earned a reputation as Old City’s premier showcase for pieces from established and emerging artists. To celebrate the venue’s legendary status, they’re hosting a new exhibit that highlights some of the finest art and talented artists featured throughout the years. Running until January 31, 2023, Retrospective Remix: Looking Back at Twenty Years in Old City gives neighborhood residents an opportunity to revisit or discover works curated by Wexler before they move their operation to a new 11,000 square foot space in nearby Fishtown next spring.
