Reinhold Residential hosted the grand opening of MetroFit, the newly restored gymnasium at The Metropolitan. The event had a 1940s theme to pay homage to the gymnasium’s former role as the Philadelphia YMCA and the YMCA Armed Forces Building. The space MetroFit now occupies was originally built as a dormitory for sailors stationed at the Navy Yard after World War I, and eventually opened its doors to all men in uniform during World War II, becoming the largest USO branch in the area. Today, the restored gymnasium, an exclusive amenity for all Reinhold residents, features modern equipment for fitness, special events, and sports leagues, in the tradition of the original YMCA.
The grand opening event was held on Thursday, October 23rd from 6:00-9:00pm at MetroFit at The Metropolitan and featured light fare, beverages, and opportunities to tour the gymnasium and model apartments. With catering from Philadelphia caterer Feast Your Eyes, guests enjoyed food from the 1940s. Shutterbooth provided a photobooth where guests could use themed props and capture all the fun. Musical performances by The Hotsy Totsy Girls got attendees in the spirit of the era. Realtors, residents, and community members were all in attendance during this historic grand opening event.
The opening of MetroFit is a significant part of Reinhold Residential’s commitment to healthy living. Residents of all Reinhold Residential properties will have the advantage of intramural sports for healthy competition amongst their neighbors, private exercise classes, state-of-the-art workout equipment, and the restored 1928 basketball court at their disposal. Tournaments and leagues will start in early November hosted by Philly Sport & Social, who was present at the event to encourage registration.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the grand opening event possible and to all who joined us in celebrating! Read more about the event and MetroFit’s renovations at Philadelphia Magazine.
