5 Things to Do In Philadelphia as the City Begins to Re-Open

On Tuesday, May 11, Mayor Tom Kenny delivered the news Philadelphians had been waiting to hear for over a year: On Friday, June 11, the city will officially reopen! On that date, the “Safer At Home” Philadelphia covid restrictions that were put in place in March 2020 will be lifted and there will no longer be any limits of density and activities. The only precaution that will still be in effect after June 11 is the mandatory mask mandate. That seems like a fair trade-off if it means we can enjoy all the summertime fun we missed last year!

After sacrificing so many activities and hobbies for over a year, we know you want to get out there and enjoy all the traditional summertime activities like catching a Phillies game, dining in Old City, seeing a concert at the Mann, and being wowed by some fantastic fireworks. If you’re ready to enjoy some new experiences this summer, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a lot of other cool activities and events happening in the city this year. Here are a few of the highlights:

1. Philadelphia Flower Show

The 2021 Philadelphia Flower Show will open to the public on June 5 and run until June 13. The region’s most beloved gardening attraction will be hosted outdoors for the first time since 1829. The show’s theme, “HABITAT: Nature’s Masterpiece” will incorporate the unique landscape of FDR Park. Enjoy horticultural beauty and design concepts and enjoy themed food, shopping, and gardening activities.

2. Lace-Up Your Skates

When’s the last time you went roller skating? Well, put your skates on and get spinning at the Rothman Orthopaedics Roller Rink! A blast of retro fun, this outdoor roller rink is a guaranteed good time at Center City’s beautiful Dilworth Park setting. You can book an hour-long session, rent a pair of skates and feel like a kid all over again. After you’ve skated up an appetite, grab a bite to eat or a relaxing drink in Dilworth Park’s beer garden. Only open until June 27, we recommend getting your tickets in advance.

3. Movies Under the Stars

What’s better than seeing a summer blockbuster on the big screen? Seeing it on the big screen under the stars! The Philadelphia Film Society presents the Drive-In at the Navy Yard. A great way to enjoy a night at the movies and the beautiful summer weather, the Drive-In at the Navy yard was such a hit last year that it’s back by popular demand. Tickets are only available online (and they go fast) so grab your family and friends, load the car up with your camping chairs, favorite snacks, and a portable radio and get ready to have a wonderful time at the movies!

4. Relaxing Summer Vibes

If you prefer more serene settings for your summertime fun, then Spruce Street Harbor Park is calling your name. This alluring park has plenty of delightful offerings: hammocks for relaxing with a good book, beautiful floating gardens that let you unwind and shed stress, and technicolor trees and floating barges that are the perfect places to enjoy a local craft beer or dinner with friends.

5. Festivals For Everyone

Philadelphia festivals are going to be in full swing this summer! June kicks things off with three of the biggest: ODUNDE the largest African American street festival on the East Coast, the return of the Philly Food Truck Fest in FDR Park, the Manayunk Arts Festival filled with arts, crafts, music, and food. More festivals will be announced as restrictions are lifted so be sure to be on the lookout for updates.

These are just a few of the many events and activities in store for you when Philadelphia covid restrictions are lifted this summer. There are a lot greater things in store when you choose Reinhold Residential’s apartments for your new home.
