The season of lights, celebrations, and holiday festivals and markets is just beginning. Pittsburgh is gearing up for annual events to celebrate the changing seasons. Here are some of the upcoming events not too far from the Shadyside Commons, along with some popular attractions located nearby.

55th Annual Light Up Night – Friday, November 20th
This free celebration hosted by The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership kicks off the official holiday season with music, activities, entertainment, and fireworks. The event will be held on Friday, November 20 at The Union Trust Building in downtown Pittsburgh. Stop by to get into the holiday spirit. Peoples Gas Holiday Market – November 20-December 23
The new holiday event, one of only three in North America, will be held at Santa’s house in Market Square. Inspired by the original Christkindlmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, this market features an assortment of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces from local, national, and international vendors. The market will also feature daily ethnic and cultural performances. This event has helped generate millions for local economy, and supports The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Pittsburgh Restaurant Week- January 12 to 18
Pittsburgh’s annual restaurant week will be coming up after the holidays. Make it your New Year’s resolution to check out these restaurants and try some new cuisines at discounted prices. Shadyside restaurants BRGR and Girsasole are among the participants, with each offering $20.15 meal specials.

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts
If you’re feeling artistic and in need of some culture, be sure to make a visit to Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Some of the upcoming exhibits include Group A ‘Works’ Exhibition, Society of Sculptures 80th Anniversary, and The Pittsburgh Society of Artists 50th Anniversary – all running from November 13 to January 17.
Roslyn Place
Looking for a little piece of history? Take a stroll down Pittsburgh’s last wooden street, located in Shadyside. Paved through a cul-de-sac surrounded by just 18 homes, this 65-year-old road is a historical gem you’ll want to see for yourself.
University of Pittsburgh
The picturesque campus located just minutes from Shadyside is one of the oldest in the country. The research-based university was founded in 1787 after the American Revolutionary War. Tour the campus and immerse yourself in its history while basking in its accomplishments of the present.
